HUMAN, AFTER ALL
Lyrics by Jakki Jelene

I must confess that I struggle now and then
And you will find that I’m not as I appear
I keep my cool because I know what I must do
Collect myself or end up like a fool

I must confess when you’re near me I’m alive
I fall apart when I see you look my way
But you never seem to see beyond these walls
Or realize how I want your love

I may seem strong, but inside I’m weak
Like a child who doesn’t know the way
And I do my best to show good face
But I must confess that I’m human after all

I’m warm inside when you return my smile
You fascinate and tantalize this heart
You seem so strong but you’re only human too
Do I stand a chance to break down your resolve?

I may seem strong, but inside I’m weak
Like a child who doesn’t know the way
And I do my best to show good face
But I must confess that I’m human after all

Desire is a thing that can overcome your consciousness
And all the logical things you know to do
You find yourself aware of things you wouldn’t normally mind
No longer in control of what you knew to be true

I may seem strong, but inside I’m weak
Like a child who doesn’t know the way
And I do my best to show good face
But I must confess that I’m human after all

Mono – Life In Mono

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Mono formed in 1996 in London and consisted of singer Siobhan de Maré and Martin Virgo on keyboards, synthesizer programming, and production. Originally planning to use the name Tremelux, they chose instead Mono, derived from the title of the Phil Spector release Back to Mono. The band signed a UK-only contract at first with Echo Records, passing up labels like Warner, Island, and London. Their first release, in 1996, was an EP of the song “Life in Mono” and various remixes. and was followed by the Formica Blues album in 1997. In 1998, the use of “Life in Mono” in the soundtrack, trailers, and end credits of the film adaptation of Great Expectations brought greater exposure for the song than ever before, and it became the number one most requested song on US radio stations for weeks following the film’s release.

Now at the height of their popularity, Mono embarked on their only concert tour. After a quiet period, however, the band broke up in 2000. De Maré now sings for Violet Indiana featuring Robin Guthrie of the group Cocteau Twins and has released a number of singles, two albums and a singles collection. More recently, de Maré also founded Pearl Dust, a music management company. Virgo joined International Love Corporation, an unsigned rock band promoted through MySpace and CD Baby, as keyboardist.

Hooverphonic – The Night Before

Friday, February 11th, 2011

As posted previously, Geike Arnaert left Hooverphonic and was replaced by newcomer Noémie Wolfs. Noémie appears on their latest album release, ‘The Night Before’, which is also the title of their first single. This makes their 3rd lead singer (4th if you count Kyoko Baertsoe of Lunascape, who was once their live front vocalist). One thing is for sure, Hooverphonic keeps trucking along and the band members are willing to make adjustments as necessary! What do you think about the new sound and vocalist?

Hooverphonic – 2 Wicky

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Hooverphonic is a Belgian trip hop/electronic group formed in 1995. The band originally called themselves Hoover but later changed their name to Hooverphonic due to other groups using the Hoover name. The band achieved international recognition through the inclusion of the track 2Wicky (from A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular) on the soundtrack to Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1996 film Stealing Beauty (Io Ballo da Sola). The original members of the group were vocalist Liesje Sadonius, keyboardist Frank Duchêne, bass guitarist and programmer Alex Callier, and guitarist Raymond Geerts.

Sadonius left Hooverphonic on amicable terms shortly after the release of A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular and was replaced by Geike Arnaert in early 1998. Duchêne left the band after Blue Wonder Power Milk. After 6 albums and a hits compilation it was announced that Geike Arnaert was also leaving the band. Hooverphonic continues to release music and perform with their new lead singer Noémie Wolfs, who appears on their latest release, “The Night Before”.
